Kraton styrenic block copolymers (SBC) are a class of thermoplastic elastomers – a material that processes like plastic but behaves like rubber. This is largely due to the physical crosslinks inherent in the block copolymer structure, which are reversible when heated or dissolved.

What is styrenic block copolymers?
Styrenic block copolymers are the largest volume and one of the lowest priced commercial thermoplastic elastomers. They are produced by ionic copolymerization of styrene and butadiene (SBS) or of styrene and 2-methyl-1,3-butadiene (SIS). It has higher tensile strength than SBR rubber but only limited heat resistance.
What does polystyrene look like?
Polystyrene can be solid or foamed. General-purpose polystyrene is clear, hard, and brittle. It is an inexpensive resin per unit weight. As a thermoplastic polymer, polystyrene is in a solid (glassy) state at room temperature but flows if heated above about 100 °C, its glass transition temperature.
