VCDS (an abbreviation for “VAG-COM Diagnostic System” and formerly known as VAG-COM) is a Microsoft Windows-based software package, developed and produced by Ross-Tech, LLC since May 2000. VCDS is also capable of interfacing vehicles which use the generic OBD-II/EOBD protocols.

In my opinion if you are going to do a lot of coding on a lot of cars then VCDS Is your go to, OBDEleven A lot of times has error coding modules while VCDS Doesnt have any. But if you just want to activate small stuff then paying 400$ isnt worth it at all and you should get an OBDEleven.
Can VAG-com read other cars?
Generic OBD-II functionality is “Supported” only on VW, Audi, Seat, and Skoda cars. It will likely work on many other brands of cars. We’d be happy to receive feedback as to what other brands and models of cars it does and does not work on, however, we do not feel obligated to make it work on other manufacturer’s cars.
Is Vagcom free?
VCDS is the new name for vag-com’s software. It is FREE to download and will work as a full version with the ross-tech cable, hence why purchasing “vag-com cables” off of eBay isn’t a good idea…
