Sprintec has white inactive tablets (Day 22 to Day 28). Take first active tablet without regard to meals on the first day of menses. Take subsequent active tablets once daily at the same time each day for a total of 21 days. Take one white inactive tablet daily for 7 days and at the same time of day that active tablets were taken.
What is Sprintec and how does it work?
What is Sprintec? Sprintec is a combination birth control pill containing female hormones that prevent ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary). Sprintec also causes changes in your cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.
How do I start a Sunday start regimen with Sprintec?
Sprintec may be started using either a Day 1 start or a Sunday start (see Table 1). For the first cycle of a Sunday Start regimen, an additional method of contraception should be used until after the first 7 consecutive days of administration. Important: Consider the possibility of ovulation and conception prior to initiation of this product.
Can Sprintec be used if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
Sprintec is not recommended for use in lactating women [see Use in Specific Populations ( 8.3 )]. If the woman has not yet had a period postpartum, consider the possibility of ovulation and conception occurring prior to use of Sprintec.
Do you need a break in between Sprintec 21 pills?
Sprintec 21 may also be available which includes 21 pills with active medication and no reminder pills. A 7 day break in medication is still required, there is just no need for taking the reminder pills. Tell your physician if bleeding is significant, irregular, or continues past the 7 day cycle.
